GESUALDO CONSORT
Reviews:
...a revelatory concert of Gesualdo at St John's Smith
Square...It was good to find a large audience engrossed by this superb music. MUSICAL OPINION It was hard to believe there were only five solo voices, so
richly did the music speak for itself. DAILY TELEGRAPH This recording is not
only most valuable for putting Gesualdo in his context, but for the
harmonically assured, flexible and verbally sensitive singing of this group.
They can mark up a distinct success. THE GRAMOPHONE In a feast of musical
scholarship the Gesualdo Consort presented a fascinating programme contrasting
compositions from the 16th & 17th centuries with 20th century settings of
the same texts. Jewels of the renaissance and baroque brilliantly alternated
with modern pieces to wonderful effect. The group never lost their sense of
historical style, employing a controlled technique which resulted in a
performance which was altogether exemplary. DER TROUW Maastricht Home Page Introduction Broadcasting Major Festivals Recordings Reviews Programmes Contact
