Many thanks to David Chapman, FISOB, for sending us these photographs.

A Piece of History in Leicestershire.

from David Chapman, FISOB

Newton Burgoland, a small village near Coalville, was the boyhood home of John Compton. He attended the Congregational Church just across the road from his home.

The church was founded in 1790, and the present church was built in 1809.

In 1935 John Compton presented the church with a chamber organ by Bates of Ludgate Hill, which is still in weekly use for services. I would be grateful for any information about the history of this organ, previous to 1935.
