QUALIFICATION AND ADMISSION OF MEMBERS


There are five classes of Membership of the ISOB:

  • Students

  • Ordinary Members

  • Associates

  • Fellows

  • Counsellors

You can apply for admission as a Student Member if you:-

  1. are undergoing recognised training in the craft of organ building or,

  2. have entered upon but not completed five years practical experience (excluding a period of recognised training) in such craft, and

  3. are sponsored by a Fellow, Counsellor, Associate or Ordinary Member of the Society.

You can apply for admission as an Ordinary Member if you:-

  1. have had recognised training in the craft of organ building, and

  2. have had five years practical experience (excluding a period of recognised training) in the craft of organ building, and

  3. are sponsored by two Members of the Society (other than Students), and

  4. hold a recognised Certificate of Competence in the craft of organ building or have passed such examination or examinations as the Council may determine.

You can apply for admission as an Associate Member if you:-

  1. have been an Ordinary Member of the Society for a period of not less than five years, or

  2. have had recognised training in the craft of organ building and ten years practical experience in such craft (excluding a period of recognised training) and

  3. have passed such examination or examinations (if any) as the Council may determine.

You can apply for admission as a Fellow if you:- 

  1. hold a position of Authority in the craft of organ building, and

  2. have been an Associate Member of the Society for not less than five years, or

  3. have had recognised training in the craft of organ building and fifteen years practical experience (excluding the period of recognised training), and

  4. have passed such examination or examinations (if any) as the Council may require.

You can apply for admission as a Counsellor if (though failing to qualify as a Student, Ordinary Member, Associate Member or Fellow of the Society) you hold and have held a position of responsibility in the craft of organ Building for more than ten years, and are sponsored by two Members of the Society.

The Council may require applicants to undergo an examination or examinations, for which a fee is payable by the applicant.  The Council reserves the right to refuse membership at its discretion.

The following letters may be used after current members' names:

Fellow F.I.S.O.B.
Counsellor C.I.S.O.B
Associate A.I.S.O.B.
Ordinary Member M.I.S.O.B.

Current Annual Subscriptions are as follows:

Fellow £63.50
Counsellor £63.50
Associate £55.00
Ordinary Member £47.00
Student Member £26.00

Subscriptions are due on 1st January each year.

Non-practising Members and overseas Members pay half the prescribed rates.

There are no non-practicing Students.

Every Member (other than a Student Member) is presented with a certificate of admission.
