THE RUSHWORTH FAMILY

Established in 1828, William Rushworth was the founder of our pipe organ business.

Since then there was continuous family control, with James Rushworth, OBE, MA, JP, representing the fourth generation, having lead the firm until his retirement in 1990.

Alastair Rushworth, FIMIT, FISOB, as the fifth generation, trained in the UK and on the North European and North American continents, studying and working in all aspects of the craft and specialising in manufacture, tonal and overall design.

This gave our Company the unequalled opportunity to produce magnificent instruments with either the most up-to-date electric or mechanical action. This latter did not involve the handicaps known in mechanical actions of the past but, together with modern technology and materials, embodied all the good that we had learnt from the past.

"Alastair Rushworth, is a Fellow of the lncorporated Society of Organ Builders, and also a Fellow of the Institute of Musical Instrument Technology. Alastair Rushworth joined the Family Company in 1964 and carried out extensive organ building training in all departments of the factory.

Following this an 18 month study period was carried out with an internationally famous Organ Builder in Holland and yet another study period with North America's largest Company in Canada.

During these periods abroad, special studies were made into Dutch, German, French, Scandinavian, Spanish, Portuguese, Canadian and American organ building and design. Following his return to England in 1970 Alastair Rushworth has considerably developed the tonal, mechanical and design resources of the Company".
